Colin Firth & Orlando Bloom in Main Street

Main Street boasts a pretty fantastic ensemble cast. Colin Firth, Orlando Bloom, Amber Tamblyn, Patricia Clarkson, Ellen Burstyn head up this story about a small town that is turned on its head when a stranger promising big things rides into town.

Several residents of a small Southern city whose lives are changed by the arrival of a stranger with a controversial plan to save their decaying hometown. In the midst of today's challenging times, each of the colorful citizens of this close-knit North Carolina community, will search for ways to reinvent themselves, their relationships and the very heart of their neighborhood. Aside from the massive crush we have on Colin Firth, Main Street didn't have much more to offer. Based on a story written by the author of To Kill a Mockingbird, the story follows residents of a small U.S. town and the man who turns their world upside down. Utilizing what might be the most see-through American accent yet, Colin Firth plays Gus who is promising big things for the withering southern town and the residents. Mostly forgotten since those pirate movies, Orlando Bloom actually pulls out a decent performance as a small town police officer trying to win the heart of his longtime love (Tamblyn) who has other ideas for herself. The always-amazing Patricia Clarkson and the legendary Ellen Burstyn round out the cast brilliantly as a mother and daughter team forging a relationship with Gus in different ways. But aside from the glitter and glow of the cast, the movie just doesn't deliver. There is promise but overall you are left slightly bored and wondering why there was hardly any ending before the movie just fizzled out. If you still want to check out the film in its entirety, wait for Netflix!
